First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville, Tennessee, is located on the public square. Our ministries, however, extend out to the world.

Our congregation has been worshiping and serving Jesus for 193 years. But our focus is on what lies ahead and what God is calling us to do.  Like Methodists have since the start, we emphasize scriptural salvation that recognizes God’s grace and our response in holy living; faith that touches both head and heart; discipleship that is both personal and social, doing compassion and justice.

Our worship is “blended,” mixing the best of yesterday and today, with a long tradition of excellence in music and preaching. We offer a variety of different Bible study and hands-on mission opportunities.

Our official mission is: “To glorify God, as we make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world!” Along we the way, we love one another, and support one another, with Christ’s amazing grace.

We invite you to join us in this great journey.

  1. Dear Members of FUMC Shelbyville,
In about a month or less, you will realize that your new pastor, Lanita Monroe, is a real jewel. We at FFGUMC have been privileged for a dozen years to have Lanita as our associate pastor. We already miss her. She is truly a skilled ordained elder. You will be blessed by her preaching, teaching, organizing, and administrative skills. But most of all, you will be blessed by her caring when you hurt from illness, grieving, or any other cause. Her pastoral care comes from the soul of a wonderfully loving, caring person. You are richly blessed!
Bill Goldsmith, Lay Leader of FFGUMC

  2. We are already realizing her talents and caring heart. She has been a pleasure to work with and we are looking forward to the future under her leadership

  3. First UMC Shelbyville is a wonderful church. I am blessed to be here. Folks are excited and eager to be involved here on the square and in the community. We’re planting seeds of God’s love and grace every chance we get. Come join us!

  4. I am trying to e-mail a staff member at the church, perhaps Rev. Monroe. Could someone please e-mail me back so that I can communicate via e-mail?
